Just What We Needed

Our new bed needed to fit up against the knee wall in our bedroom, really no room for a headboard. The fit is perfect and the look is just what we wanted. The bed is remarkably stable, a great height and has four "turned" legs. It's hard to find a NICE bed without a headboard. We're really pleased with this purchase.

Bought this to go with the stunning Addison headboard. The platform bed was gorgeous, but the structural integrity was very bad. Slats fell out. Plus the bed frame loudly squeaked and creaked with even the slightest turn. It felt like the bed would collapse at any moment. That disrupted sleep and made the whole bed feel cheap and frustrating. It broke my heart to return it, but it was poorly made and way too loud for restful sleep.

My wife really likes the design, and so do I, I guess. The three support beams in the middle drive me crazy. You shouldn't have to crawl under your bed every single night to straighten little pieces of wood. Luckily, a friend of mine gave me a sword for my birthday, so we used that to whack the pieces of wood back to place for a while, but then they started breaking. We're going to try to figure out a way to reinforce the supports, since we like the design, and it wasn't cheap. It would be nice if Pottery Barn had a solution for this. I might have given this bed two stars, but supposedly that translates to a "fair" rating, and crawling under your bed every night to straighten little pieces of wood is not fair.

The Universal Platform bed in full size is solid, well built and has a great clean look. This bed is an upgrade from a single bed for a college student, and provides a bigger bed without overpowering the room. The delivery and set up were great too.

The bed fell apart the first night I slept in it. If you move at all, the "support" things fall out and you end up crawling underneath the bed to put them back in several times through the night. Heaven for bid you have a guest over, the whole thing will fall on the floor and the sides split in half. Very dissappointed. I actually returned the first bed, had a second one delivered and that broke within a week. Do not buy.

This is a beautiful platform bed, but the structural integrity is a joke! Every time I move the bed or dare to do what couples do on a bed, I have to get under the bed and readjust the supports. I actually broke it the first night I had it and it was replaced because the supports fell down and the bed collapsed, cracking the frame. I think some 2x4's between the underbed supports should do the trick, just surprised that it is up to the customer to figure out the structural integrity of the piece.

Good value for a platform bed

We like the platform look and the style/color are exactly as we wanted. Note that the finish is "distressed".
The three center legs have fallen off already (after 4 weeks!), so we have had to make our own adjustments of support. We do have a heavy mattress, so that could be a reason why the legs weren't functioning well.
Overall, we are happy with the bed for the price!

This bed is really perfect. It is just as pictured, and exactly what I wanted! I like the clean, classic lines and the white minimalist look. Plus I can fit storage units under the bed which is super convenient. I love it and would totally recommend it.

Love this bed. Lots of character and well made. Purchased this for a beach house attic bedroom when we couldn't fit the box spring up the stairs. A bit lower than a traditional bed it fits the space perfectly. Love the color (antique white). The cost was a little more than other platforms, but the attention to detail & style makes it well worth it!!

first night after putting together the support beams all 3 broke...and the center support beam cracked in half.... it has been interesting trying to reinforce it.

Love the bed...but....

The design is really REALLY silly. The 3 supportive beams under the center of the bed fall out ALL. THE. TIME. with any kind of movement. The frame is on a hardwood floor so it sometimes slides therefore knocking out the beams that are only held in by wooden dowels. I expect better from Pottery Barn. The only reason I gave any stars at all is because the frame is really pretty. My husband is going to make a trip to the hardware store to come up with some kind of reinforcements for those beams.
I hope you can make an effort to redesign this for future customers.

Frame is good except

The Universal Platform bed is good, except for the middle "support" legs.
These "legs" are not secured into the frame so when ever the bed moves a little, I have to crawl under the bed to fix them, or they fall out of are in a slant. I'm tempted to just remove these legs but they do seem to serve a purpose so I'm not sure what to do, but it's quite annoying. Have considered returning the bed due to this issue.

This bedframe is a great piece. It's more decorative than a standard metal frame, without the bulk of a headboard. There is also a 2x4 under the center for added support and plenty of clearance for storage underneath.

AFter looking at 100s of bed, I chose the universal platform and am delighted with my purchase. The detail on the legs are what makes this simple design of a bed different from most other beds. The bed was set up for me by the delivery people and saved me alot of stress. It requires only a mattress as the box spring made the bed too tall.

Questionable Sturdiness

I loved the easy, quick assembly and beautifully distressed antique look of the French white paint. The bed however has questionable sturdiness and tends to squeak sometimes with movement. Overall though it serves its purpose and is a great alternative for those who do not want to deal with a boxspring.

We live in a little bungalow, and our queen box spring wouldnt fit upstairs with our queen mattress. Since we moved in a month ago, we have been on a mattress on the floor! It has been uncomfortable to get into and out of bed. Now that we got this universal platform, our mattress has a place to sit, and it's nice and high, so we dont need to worry about hurting ourselves getting out of bed. it's gorgeous, too! I was worried that it wouldnt fit, but it fits perfectly and looks very nice! Can't wait to buy the addison headboard to go with it, love Pottery Barn craftsmanship.
