Sumner Extending Dining Table
A rustic finish brings unparalleled warmth to this table. This table is so pretty. But, the chairs are really too heavy and the seats too wide in order to put more chairs around the table. I often have ten or more for dinner and thought that a table this long would be great. I can seat 8 ok but when I put in the leaves, the arms of the end chairs hit the bracket underneath the table. This makes me sick as I bought the table and then did not have the big dinner party for a couple of months. I will never buy something this expensive online again.

I love this table. I looked for several years for something like this, and I was so glad to find it last year at Pottery Barn. The extensions are super simple to put in place, and it fits perfectly in my large open area dining room. It is easy to clean with a damp or wet cloth. The table is very stable and well made.
I already had six oak ladder back chairs, and I was so pleased that they matched perfectly with the rustic pine finish!
I highly recommend this table. Great job, Pottery Barn!

Disappointed in Rustic Pine Sumner table

I ordered the Sumner table in Rustic Pine finish. Table is very dark, does not even look like pine. Top is very rough, bumpy, sort of washboard feeling. Lots of circle saw marks on every board. It looks like they cut all the boards with a bad saw blade. The top feels like a plastic finish is applied. Ordered six Wynn ladderback chairs in Rustic pine finish. They too are very dark, not pine looking at all. I am returning the entire set to Pottery Barn. I will not buy another table unless I can actually see the table finish and color before purchasing.

LOVE our new table

My husband and I bought a floor sample in the Rustic Mahogany and it is just gorgeous. We love how heavy and sturdy this table is. We paired it with 4 Wynn chairs in the matching color and another bench in a cream color (I can't remember which collection) and we love how it looks. One of my favorite things about this table is that you don't need to be gentle with it, meaning you don't need to worry about hot dishes or sweating glasses ruining the finish. Of course, we wipe of everything quickly and carefully but I haven't seen any signs wear from these things like a typical table would. Overall, our favorite piece in our house!

Our new dining room table

My wife and I are extremely happy with the table we received. We have had it for almost a month now and love it so much we are going to order the buffet and benches that match the color we have! Delivery and setup went very well and caring for the table is no problem. The only issue we have is that the buffet that matches will not be available for another 3-4 months which is disappointing. The extensions on the table are very easy to manage and look great when attached.

This is a beautiful table and it looks awesome in my dining room. HOWEVER, I noticed a very musty/mildewy smell in the room and thought it was the antique chest in the corner. I took apart the whole chest, emptied the drawers, etc and could not find the source of the smell. Accidently, I bent over to pick up something off the rug and imagine my surprise it was the table! Haven't come up with a solution yet. Also, the leaves are very cumbersome to place and it makes for very difficult seating around the legs. I would not recommend this table.

Beautiful Table!

I received the Sumner table & Wynn chairs before Thanksgving and used it continuously through the holidays. I could not be more pleased with them. It is everything I wanted in a table and I looked for over a year. Initially I was concerned it would be too large for our modest dining room but it works perfectly.
We have a 3 year old and it has already been spilled on a bit and used as a "racetrack". Which I try to stop immediately! Also my husband is a big guy, so I needed something to hold up to him (6'5"-250lbs).
In my opinion it is a fantastic dining room set that can be casual or dressed up. I do take care of it, because I love it so much. It has only been wiped down with a damp sponge and that works fine, no furniture polish has been used or seemed needed.
I had been hesitant to purchase due to other reviews, but now I am so glad I did. Thank you PB!

Pretty table, but finish rubbed off within 3 mos.

The table is beautiful, but if you're thinking of using it for routine dining, it's not the right table. The finish started rubbing off within a couple of months of use. Apparently, you're not supposed to ever use soap on the table, but if you dine with children three meals a day, that's not a realistic expectation. I used organic soap after meals, soft cloths, and never scrubbed - and the finish is still gone in many places. It also scratches easily. Apart for the problems with the finish, it really is a pretty table. Hopefully Pottery Barn will be able to redesign the laqueur to improve on current defects.

I just got the rustic pine table. I love it! The guys that deliverd it were wonderful! They took the time to show me how to put the leaves in. This table has a worn farmhouse look. Very hard to find in this area. I am using four of the Ryden desk chairs and two Wynn chairs. It looks great!

A little disappointed

We ordered the Sumner table in the mahogany stain. It is quite dark (more so than I expected) so the wood grain doesn't show through as much as I would like. I also don't believe it seats 10 people comfortably. We paired it with the Wynn chair and it seems, due to the placement of the extension leaves, that people seated at the end of the table would be fighting for space. However, the table is quite sturdy. I like the overall look, but unfortunately am sending it back.

We've had our Sumner table (pine finish) for about a year now and still love it. It is good-looking and very sturdy. It looks great with our casual and fine dinnerware. I also use it for sewing and jewelry making. Because of the distressed finish, I never have to worry about damaging or scratching it. The fact that it extends to seat 10 to 12 is a bonus. We also bought the Wynn chairs and put cushions on them, so we don't worry about scratching them either. Very happy.

Beautiful Table

I ordered this table in the Mahogony stain after seeing the Pine stain in stores. I was afraid that the dark color might hide all the rustic detail, but the table is beautiful and all of the weathering shows wonderfully. I also love the size of this table, since unextended it's small enough to fit in almost any dining room, but with the extensions, you can fit 10 comfortably and even squeeze in 12.

The sturdiness of the table is there but the finish on it is lacking. It chips off at the slightest disturbance. I wouldn't recommend it for a family with kids. I have only had it for three months and already the chairs show marks where it has been scratched due to buttons on the back of shorts. It scratches way too easily.

I bought both the table and chairs. Found this in their catalogue and fell in love with it. The many pictures you were able to view also on the website made my decision. When received @ my home, I found it excellant quality and beautifully made. Looks beautiful in my dining room. I am definately pleased and now a big Pottery Barn shopper!!!

This table has a sturdy feel to it and is a great color. The color at home is slightly darker than pictured in the catalog and/or store but is still a great tone. Overall, I'm very happy with it so far.
