A deep mahogany stain highlights the natural distressing of our Sumatra Bed's kiln-dried wood, hand-chosen for its unique character. We really liked the Sumatra bed and night stands. They filled our bedroom with a robust and at the same time charming look. The rustic appearance of the wood is very beautiful.

Great but make sure you have some "Old English"

I love my bed and double dresser! We have had it for six years now and still not a creak. The wood however is so soft that I feel like I'm always trying to cover up an other scratch. The knobs on the dresser are always loose and have rotated and scratched a complete circle where they rub. My husband and I are always scratching the drawers as we open them. Our dogs sleep on the floor at the foot of the bed and they have scratched the footboard.
I love the style, sturdiness and great construction of the bed, I just wish for the price, it was made out of a harder wood and I wasn't fixing scratches all of the time. The dark Old English does do the trick though.
If you are not looking for the "shabby" look then I do not recommend this bed. Otherwise, it may be just what your looking for.

Very happy with the bed. It looks fantastic and appears to be as solid as a rock.
The only issue I have is my own and that is - do I want a box spring or not. I got a 5" low profile box spring and it is a bit too high. Seems to dwarf the night stands and the foot board (too high). Scratching my head on trying a 2" low profile box or maybe nothing - just flat boards (I am told I need SOMETHING completely flat or I risk voiding my new mattress warranty). Just something to think about.

Soft Wood/Finish SO Easily Scratched and Damaged

Of course it is a beautiful bedroom set.
Unfortunatly the wood and finish are so soft that it is literally dented/scratched by fingernails and anything else that bumps in to it. around all the nobs on our extra wide dresser the finish is destroyed simply from the contact of fingernails as the knob is grasped (and myself and my husband have short nails!)
Same true for headboard, footboard and night tables all have terrible unsightly scratches and dings from normal daily use.

I had really hoped for the price, that this set would last, but after 3 years it looks beyond the antique/distressed look they were going for, and just plain shabby (not chic).

This bed looks great! Traditional time-defying look to it which I love. The bed is solid standing, doesn't squeak much, give or rock at all. The big downside is the same issue most folks have with this bed, it scratches and dents VERY easily. As much as I hate that issue, I've learned to live with it. This could have been a 5-star purchase, but the softness of the wood brings is the achilles heel.

This bed is really beatiful and sturdy. The wood is a nice warm brown finish and has some nice irregularities in it. I am definitely satisfied with it so far. I had it installed and there was a wait for a part to be delivered before the bed could be delivered and assembled, but when the part finally arrived, the crew delivered it and assembled it quickly. I am glad I paid extra for the installation as there seemed to be alot of small parts - the crew was very efficient and put it together in about 30 min or less.

Scratches easily

I absolutely LOVE the look and stain of this set. I have had the bed, dresser, and tower dresser since 2003. It looks like the set is an antique for how many scratches and dents it has in it due to how soft the wood is. I am very disappointed on how easily it scratches. My fingernail nail scratches it if I accidentally hit it. Think twice about where you will be using this set not good for everyday use.

I have this whole set and I like the looks of it. It has held up for the 5+ years we have owned it. The problem I have is that the dresser drawers make my clothes STINK!!! I have drawer liners to no avail. I admit I do have a pretty sensitive sense of smell but I know I am not the only one. I really don't use the drawers anymore because I hate the smell. The double dresser was an expensive picture frame/TV table.

biggest furniture purchase regret

We bought this set when we got married five years ago and within 3 months it was ruined. We loved the style of the furniture but the wood is so soft that the tops of our dresser and nightstand became scratched by simply putting a photo frame on top of them. Tried the repair set of markers and wax in the mahogany shade, which only made it look worse. Around each of our dresser knobs, there are areas where the finish wore off and it scratched just from my husband's short fingernails!! I regret this purchase every single day.

This purchase was a great find. Nicely crafted and such a quality product. We are very pleased with this bed...only thing to be aware of though---be careful with the wood...as the finish was easily scratched with my jewelry. Very minimal ...and not too noticable---but it's something to watch out for. :) The delivery team was very professional and assembled the bed quickly. Thanks for such a nice piece of furniture...we highly recommend it.

We just had the bed delivered and it is beautiful. I was nervous spending this much money when there were other options significantly lower in price, but it was definitely worth it. The entire bed is very well made and it is a timeless piece of furniture.

Farmhouse country meets perfection

This is the bed for you if you love a farmhouse country bed matched with the beautiful lines of a luxury bed. The color is so rich and wonderful, it will match any room setting (well, maybe not modern). Also, my husband and I are not "skinny" people. This bed keeps us warm and cozy and secure. Upon buying my house 2 years ago, I wanted a bed that will last me 25 years and will stand the test of time and look good in those 25 years. After exhausting research, I settled on the Sumatra bed.
I must say I absolutely love this bed. It is rustic and classic at the same time.
I also got the double dresser and a bedside table.

I LOVE THIS BED

I wanted this bed forever, and then when I broke down and ordered it, found it was on back order. I waited and waited, and FINALLY got it. Probably waited over a year. IT IS GORGEOUS. We used to let our dogs up on the bed (no more) and they scratched it terribly. The wood is soft and it looked horrible. Working on the scratches with those pencil things would have taken forever. Now I just use Old English furniture polish in the dark tone every now and then. Fills in and covers the scratches, makes it look like a million bucks. To tell you the truth, it just looks like a true Indonesian heirloom now. The scratches just add character. If you're looking for something that looks brand new and perfect, this may not be the piece for you. But I have an eclectic mix of furniture, and it blends beautifully with my other furnishings, like Kilim pillows, etc. I LOVE THE BED. I also bought the bedside tables.

My husband and I adore this bed - we've been wanting to purchase a new bed for years and how I wish we had been aware of this long before now! It's gorgeous, elegant and just about perfect - especially for the quite reasonable price. Couldn't be more delighted.

We have the queen sumatra bed and we've loved it so much that we are going to give it to our son (who's finally getting his own room) and order ourselves the king sumatra. Can't find another bed we'd rather have. Wood is a little soft but it's not a big deal at all.

Some of the reviews claim it scratches easily, but few woods are scratch-proof and a lot of PB furniture seems to go for that rustic look. If a piece of furniture has distressed/sanded corners and edges, it is probably not meant to look like it has never been touched.
That said - I love this bed. The frame is extremely solid and sturdy with great weight to it. I'm sure this thing could last a lifetime if you wanted it to. I always get compliments on this set. Good furniture is a long-term investment!

I've had this bed for five years, like the other reviewers have stated, the wood is very soft. I can scratch it with my thumbnail. But it cleans up ok when I use a wood stain scratch remover. If you want it perfect for all time I wouldn't recommend you buying it.

After 8 plus years with my Sumatra bedroom set my wife And I still look a it like it was yesterday the set has kept up very good as a matter of fact just his week we decided to add an extra piece to the set which was the tall drawer.
