Sausalito Dinnerware-Celery
Our Sausalito Dinnerware is a longstanding favorite. Made of dense, heavy earthenware, these generously sized pieces are the ultimate basic for everyday dining. Each piece is glazed by hand and has visible brush strokes. 16-piece set includes 4 dinner plates, 4 salad plates, 4 cereal bowls and 4 mugs. Available in a wide assortment of colors designed to mix and match. Earthenware's porousness makes it readily absorb heat, so while dishes are microwave-safe, they may become hot. Handle carefully. Please take special care when microwaving liquids; hot liquids will transfer their heat to the container. Store / Internet Only.

dishes chip and smell moldy

I've read another person's account of the dishes smelling moldy even after scorching them with heat and drying them thoroughly in the dishwasher, so I'm sure we're not the only ones. However, I am *not* sure that the glaze is always water tight on these dishes; there are a few dishes that get "dark spots" under the clear coat and I am worried that is causing the stink... We have tried washing and thoroughly drying them and then putting them in a different cupboard in the kitchen to ensure it wasn't mold in the cupboard, and lo and behold, the new cupboard now smells like mold. (Yet our cupboard with glasses does not smell.) So I'm baffled and about at my wit's end. They also chip a lot even though handled carefully - we were warned by a sales associate but didn't heed the warning since we were so invested already...

Chips too easily

I received two sets of the cereal bowls for our wedding. I love this color, but about half of the bowls had big chips in them after just several months of use. You also really can't microwave them because they get too hot. For moderately expensive bowls, I'm disappointed with the quality.

These were wonderful. I mail ordered and they came unbroken and I recieved them in time to have Thanksgiving dinner with.

This dinnerware is beautiful, but that is where the pros end! If you put any of the pieces in the microwave, they get so hot they will burn you. Also they chip so easily! The plates and bowls get tiny chips and scratches on them just from eating out of them! I have had large pieces chip off the edges, just putting things back into the cupboard. Also, the dinner plates are so big they do not fit in the dishwasher and need to be hand washed. They also do not fit in a regular sized cabinet. Also the plates have a bowl like shape there is very little flat surface for the food so everything runs together. Had I known about these issues beforehand, I never would have registered for them! They may be great for occasional use, but I will be looking elsewhere for a new set of everyday dishes!!

I love the cereal bowl...I use it for much more though....it is good for side dishes and when I cook stuff for the kids and don't want a huge bowl..

I love the color of these large plates! It was just what I was looking for . I ordered 12 and might not be able to get them all in the dish washer at the same time if I have a party and use them all at once but that's ok!

I was so happy to see a sale on my favorite dinnerware! The customer service center was so helpful as well when a few bowls arrived broken.

I've read the reviews and have to say I absolutely love the Sausalito dinnerware! I've had them for only a year (set of 12) and not a single item has chipped. While entertaining we have received many compliments and referred several people to PB. I'm a big fan!

I will keep this short and to the point. Every plate seems like a bowl. Very little flat area for food everything runs together. If you reheat food until it is hot the plates or mugs will burn you. The dinner plates will not fit in the dishwasher. I will be replacing them as soon as I can afford to.

Great line of dishes

I bought the whole set in dark blue and a grey/blue that I don't think is available. My only complaint is that the dinner platest are HUGE! They don't fit in our cupboard so we have to store them in a cupboard that would normally be used for pots and pans. They are also very heavy. Aside from that, I love the colors and simple design of the plates. I have had them 4 years and only one plate has a chip in it but we still use it.

I regestered for the sausalito dinnerware for my wedding eight years ago and received 12 of each piece. The dinner plates are very large and honestly we don't use them often because the salad plates are large enough for everyday meals. I have only had two pieces chip in the eight years I have had them and we have made 5 moves in that time (a US Navy family). I am happy with the way these have held up! Wonder if the quality was better when I received the dishes as opposed to more recent versions...?

I wish I read the reviews before registering for these dishes. I was so excited to receive these dishes as a wedding gift. Tomorrow is my second anniversary and many of these plates and bowls have chipped. I believe the mother of two when she says hers haven't chipped and I'm jealous because I don't think I'm not handling them properly. I love the look and PB too, but if you are looking for something to last you awhile, look elsewhere.

I love the color and the feel of these dishes. I did chip a plate the first day I had them but it is very tiny and haven't had an issue since. I am still concerned that they will chip over time but we do not have children so they serve us just fine. I do agree with another reviewer that the dinner plates are abnormally large. They do not fit in my large cupboards and I had to put them in a separate pantry which is not desirable. I love the heavy pottery and the brush marks are beautiful.

love pb...hate these dishes

I bought 12 place settings plus serving dishes and pitchers in the celery and white because they looked beautiful. However, they've chipped so badly that I regret the purchase. This morning I found that the unglazed rim on the bottom of the plates grew mold after being washed in the dishwasher. I'm getting rid of these and will never purchase dishes from PB again.

Too Big!

We registered for the Sausalito Dinnerware online, not realizing how big it was. None of our dinnerware has chipped, but the dinner plates are huge. We decided to keep them, but that don't fit in our wash machine "comfortably" and thank goodness we have a large corner cabinet that they can all fit in.
Aside from being huge, they have been pretty nice plates, bowls, etc.

These plates have been very sturdy and have held up well in our home. We have 2 young boys who use these on a daily basis and we haven't had one chip or scratch. One of our bowls does have a chip but that was because I dropped it in the sink. Other than that they have been wonderful dishes!

Love the color, hate the chips

Like the other reviewers I was very disappointed at how easily this dinner wear chips - especially the mugs and bowls. It's a shame - the celery color is beautiful. The durability does not compare to the many other PB pieces I own and love.
