Nice shelves but difficulty hanging them

I purchased 2 of the 4' shelves to hang on a small wall I have and when I got the instructions and hardware it seemed easy enough. WRONG! The hardware gave me did not work, I had to go out and purchase my own self drilling dry wall anchors and screws to give me satisfaction that these would not come crashing down. And also one of the shelfs just doesn't sit flush against the wall. Not too big of a problem but for the amount of money spent you would think it would be better quality and product. After reading other reviews am I glad that I am not the only one with the same problems.

I purchased three 4' rustic wood shelves to put in a little niche in the wall. They look great and would go with any decor. Many compliments.

I almost didn't buy this shelf after reading the problems some reviewers had hanging it. I am only moderately handy and was able to put it up by myself in about 15 minutes. I guess it is important to have an even wall surface, but it was really easy for me!

Disappointing. Only ordered the 10" shelf because the 4" ledge was not deep enough. There needs to be an option offered between 4 and 10 inches. Installation directions were missing the second page (3 pages of French instructions were included!?). One of the toggles would not open when screwed into the wall. Had to use Molly screws. Poor quality overall for the cost-I do not recommend this product.

These are not very nice shelves. First, they're very plastic looking in real life. And although they are easy to hang, the shelf was never quite flush to the wall and it dipped down in front. That was before I put anything on them. I would not recommend.

Just what I wanted

I hung my shelves (1 3' and 1 2') on my living room wall to display pottery and a few books. They look beautiful! The 4" thickness gives them such definition and the stain of the wood looks perfect with my oak furniture pieces. I did a lot of on-line searching and these were just what I wanted! Thank you for this beautiful product!

I think the catalog photo was deceiving so I was disappointed when I received the shelf. Not that it was a bad product, it just wasn't what I expected.

The rustic shelf is very nicely made. It isn't heavy but has the appearance of being a thick shelf. The installation was pretty simple and straightforward if you have done this kind of thing before and/or follow the instructions video you can find on the PB website

I was disappointed the the shelf was not completely finished. The bottom was a stained press board without any of the rustice features that were featured on the top. The shelf was hanging high on a wall were the bottom would have been seen. It really made it look cheap.

I have not installed them yet. However, the instructions look easy. I love the beefy, weathered look. I'm thinking they are going to look great in the guestroom. Different from others that I have seen, and I like that.

I Love These!

I'd been searching for months looking for shelves that weren't slick and generic looking. When I saw these online, I flipped, but was worried that they wouldn't look as nice in real life.
They arrived. My husband installed them (not too difficuilt, but he's very handy) and we just love them. They are sturdy and really really attractive. I love that they are so different from everything else I've seen.
I highly recommend these!

Shelf looks great, just what I paid for

Just mounted the 4' shelf to a dinning room wall and it looks great. I wouldn't put a 100lbs on the thing which is the max weight limit but I don't think you could fit 100 lbs worth of stuff on it. It is flush with my wall except for about an 1/8 of an inch gap in the middle probably due to the dry wall and not the shelf.
It only took about 15 minutes for 2 us to install, real simple. We used a string line to level the holes instead of the provided paper template.

Rustic Wood Shelves & Ledge

I purchased a couple of the Rustic Wood Shelves, as well as a Ledge. Overall, I like how they look, and the Shelves/Ledge themselves seem to be of good quality...However, I had a heck of a time getting the 3' Shelf mounted to the wall. The provided wall anchors did not play well with the provided long screws for the anchors, and no matter what approach I took, I could not get the Shelf to have that nice flushed/sturdy look while hanging against the wall.
As a side note, I do not recommend attempting to remove the wall anchors provided with the Shelf. I ended up pulling huge chunks of the dry-wall out in an attempt to re-level the Shelf. After repairing the wall, I ended up going with standard wall anchors which are much more forgiving if you make a mistake – plus, I got that nice flushed/sturdy look I was going for.

Disappointing Quality

I purchased 2 of the 3' shelves to put side by side (as one 6' shelf, as PB displays the "Holman shelves"). Because of the poor way these shelves are made, the 2 edges do not line up perfectly- which I can live with- but the overall quality of these shelves is very disappointing. They look "plastic", especially the bottom (when looking up at them) which is too bad because I purchased them to go over my Benchwright Mirror which is over my Benchwright Buffet. The description says the shelves match the Benchwright Collection, however they are not the same quality as the Benchwright furniture so they look "cheap" next to it. I decided to keep and hang the shelves because I figure once I put stuff on them they'll be "okay", but this is one buy from PB I'm disappointed with, especially for the price! As far as ease of hanging the shelves... my husband hung them while I was busy in another room and I heard him swear a few times so I don't think that part went too well either. : (

Great shelves, but....

I've purchased numerous PB shelves and appreciate the easy mounting brackets included.
However, unlike other shelves' mounting brackets that are metal and have multiple holes for mounting flexibility, this shelf's mounting bracket is wood and only has 3 holes, on the 4' shelf I purchased. Not a huge deal until you discover the 3 holes are only 12 inches apart meaning you can only anchor to 1 wall stud at most.
Yes, 3 wall anchors are included with these shelves but I personally don't like punching huge holes in my wall the anchors create.
My solution was to drill an extra hole on the bracket 16 inches from the hole I determined would be an anchor hole which allowed me to mount to 2 wall studs. Unfortunately, the bracket isn't long enough to drill a 3rd hole so I was stuck mounting to 2 wall studs.
I still love these shelves but the mounting bracket issues seems to be an odd oversight on the part of the manufacturer and/or Pottery Barn's Corporate product buyers.
