Always locked

Perhaps I should have known that an icebox latch's resting state is always locked and you must move the lever to unlock it? I had no idea and it was not stated in the specifications or description. Being that it was rust retardent, I bought it as a lock for inside my shower. I can't use the item. Otherwise, the quality appears good.
