Mounting the shelf is a pain!

The shelf looks great, had no problem mounting bracket to wall or leveling it perfectly. The trouble came when we had to hang shelf to wall bracket. The groves are not wide enough for it to easily slide into each other (connect). Save yourself the time (call to customer service/trip to hardware store) and use a tool (we used the flat end of hammer) to open up both connecting metal brackets. After we did that the shelf slipped on just like the chick in the video.

This shelf is so easy to put up. It looks great, allowing me to display a variety of things that I can easily change around. I liked it so much I ordered another one for a different room. The color is perfect, as pictured and the construction is of quality.

Difficult to install

I like the look of the shelf, but we had an extremely difficult time installing it. I even called customer service for some tips, but they were no help, except to say they recommended professional installation. (who is a professional?). The problem is the bracket on the shelf needs to be held at an angle to fit onto the support, but its very difficult to get the required angle because the bracket is recessed in a routed out groove on the back of the shelf. Since its impossible to see behind the shelf as you install it, it takes numerous trials, to finally get it on, and even then, it may fall right back off. So be Very Careful, and maybe consider hiring a professional to save your self a lot of aggravation, if you can figure out who that professional would be.

These are easy to install, sturdy, quality material (solid wood), and look fabulous! The mounting system they have is fool proof - we've done it now one several other ledges and their daily system. They always end up even and solidly mounted. We put these shelves in the master bedroom and they hold a lot of books, photos, and keepsakes nicely. I'd highly recommend.

First: they are not white. They have a yellow tone. Second: they're "easy to hang", except the rail on the back of the shelf doesn't always catch the wall rail. So out of the 6 we bought only one actually slid on correctly. The others had to be bent. Before we learned that was the trick the shelves dropped off the wall, putting dings and scratches in the paint.
Ultinately they look nice and function well, but my walls have to be touched up and the door frame next to the shelves make the shelves look even more yellow.
Before I spent the money I searched for something similar and couldn't find it. Hence the comment title.

I love how this shelf displays our artwork and a couple small figures. It makes a gallery collection of items that were previously just sitting in a closet. Looks great in the living room!

Great shelves for accessorizing

The Holman shelf is a perfect choice for accessorizing. It holds photos, candles, vases and all sorts of cool stuff. I paired it with a picture ledge, offset the two and it made a perfect place for displaying objects.

Love these shelves

I wanted some shelves for my living room in my new homre. I didn't want a full bookshelf as they feel "bulky".
These shelves are just perfect. they were eash to hang - the level in the base makes it very easy to ensure that they are straight. I ordered the espresso - and hung 4 shelves and one ledge in vaious configurations. They look wonderful. The espresso color was a bit more "red" than I thought it would be, but they look really nice.

Love the Holman shelves. I purchased 4 originally, 2 4' , 1 3', and the corner piece. The corner piece came in a slightly darker stain than the other pieces. So I returned that piece, and Pottery Barn picked it up and it was no hassle to me at all. The other 3 pieces are hanging on my wall. I will say, these took a little longer to hang than the other shelves I have purchased in the past. Seems the brackets set in the shelf were not out far enough to set securely on the wall mount. The decorator I hired to hang them had to use shims behind all the wall brackets. After that they hung beautifully and secure.

Love how these shelves look...very classy. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because of the installation. After my husband spent 20 frustrating minutes trying to mount the shelf, I finally went to potterybarn.com and looked up the comments on this shelf. After reading other people's similar experience, we discovered the key is not to over tighten the screws on the mounting bracket. My husband backed them out slightly and it fit like a glove. I wish Pottery Barn would include this information on their installation video. It would save other people much frustration. Other than that, they're great!

I love this floating shelf because of its depth and the piece in the front which prevents items from slipping or falling. I purchased two 3 foot shelves and placed one above the other. They arrived in perfect condition, were well-packed, and came with clear instructions to make installation easy. My framed photos and various artwork look beautiful, and I have received numerous compliments on the shelves. The only reason I did not give the product five stars is because of the color. In the photos the antique white looked lighter than the actual product. It was not a problem for me since the color complemented my room.

Nice shelves, but difficult to install

We had to resort to using washers behind the track in order to install these shelves. I am surprised that PB doesn't fix this defect after so many negative comments. However, I do like the shelf now that it's installed.

This is my second 4 ft Holman Shelf. Husband is very handy so these were easy for him to install. Love the quality and I can change items on the shelf as I change decor. Thank you Potterybarn for another great product.

We purchased the 36 inch brown shelf for our entryway to go above a row of hooks. It looks great! It is very sturdy and well built. We are very happy with our purchase and would recommend this shelf.
