Glazed by hand. 16-piece set includes 4 dinner plates, 4 salad plates, 4 cereal or soup bowls and 4 mugs. 20-piece set includes 4 dinner plates, 4 salad plates, 4 cereal or soup bowls, 4 cups and 4 saucers. Food, dishwasher and microwave-safe. While dishes are microwave-safe, they may become hot. Handle carefully. Please take special care when microwaving liquids; hot liquids will transfer their heat to the container. Made in Portugal.

Love my Emma dinnerware!

I came across these from PB and I LOVE them! They are beautiful and great quality. The mugs are the perfect size...not too big and not too small. The butter yellow color is beautiful, my favorite color. And they are called Emma, my grand daughter's name...they were meant for me ;-)

Looks Great - But Chips

I have had my eye on this set for a long time. I registered for a boxed set of dishes from a department store YEARS ago when I got married. Twelve years later, I finally got rid of that set and bought the Emma set from Pottery Barn. I am so disappointed. My original set was still in perfect condition. Not a chip anywhere on any dish or bowl. I have had this Emma set for less than a year and almost every single piece has a chip on it - some very significant chips. I am going back to my old stand-by set of dishware.

I really love these dishes - only one problem I bought service for 8 about 8 months ago and then ordered another set of service for 4 and the bottoms are different and the color a little off but not enough that guests can notice - I didn't send them back because I needed them for a dinner party for 12.

DO NOT WASTE MONEY!! We had our first chip on a bowl when unwrapping the dishes from the store. That should have been a sign because I dont think we have a piece in the set that doesnt have a chunk out of it somewhere and have been careful with the dishes. The plates are showing the grey lines silverware marks too. We paid more for these dishes than any other that we've owned (besides china) and these by far have been the lowest quality. We bought these to eat with company, but there's no way I could get them out, it would be an embarrassment and have not owned them for very long. I just keep thinking of the newly weds registering for these and feel bad that their first set of dishes will be so poor.

Has PB responded to concerns about the plate chipping? I just purchased a set. I put them in dish washer with no problems. If these chip I certainly wouldn't buy another set. I'm glad I started small.

My Wedding Everyday China is ruined.

I followed the care instructions with this china, and it has since chipped. All the cereal bowls have huge chips as well as mugs and cups. The plates are okay, but the bowls (soup, cereal and serving) are ruined. This was my gift from my mother for my wedding. So sad.

I love this dinnerware! It is so pretty, with a good weight to it. It goes in the microwave and dishwasher. I am really happy I bought it. Thank-you Pottery Barn! :)

Chipping + Discoloration

I have the entire set of Emma dishes, including serving dishes. Within the first year, all of the cereal bowls & 2 serving bowls chipped. Within the second year, half of our plates chipped and one small plate shattered after being taken out of the dishwasher.
I do not recommend this product.
It is disappointing that Pottery Barn has not taken steps to fix the chipping problem, as it seems to have been an issue for years (per the comments).

I have only been using these dishes for a few weeks, but they are beautiful and hold up well in the dishwasher. They are great for everyday use. I would definitely recommend this product.

Purchasing Emma dinnerware is a great buy since you can
buy pieces and mix and match. I have the white dinnerware
and have purchased other colors for salad plates, etc
to create a different tablescape whenever you like.

Chips easily! Poor construction.

The bowls and mugs chip easily and for no apparent reason. The plates are good, but I just threw out all the bowls because they were all badly chipped. Very disappointing.

New Condo Dishes

I recently purchased these delightful dishes for our condo down in Florida. I am from Mn. and have the same dishes in celery here at home. Which I love. However for there I wanted a sunshine color and picked the beautiful butter yellow. These dishes were awaiting my arrival. I purchased a service for 8, and was a little worried I would unpack some of my new dishes chipped or cracked. Not a one had any flaw! I was AMAZED and DELIGHTED with the excellent reinforced packing that Pottery Barn did. THANK YOU POTTERY BARN!!!

I love the dinnerware, but it only took one week before the salad bowl chipped. I have only hand washed these items, and had expected them to last a tad longer!
Color, weight and design are great, though.

I have had these dishes in yellow since 2006 and have had only 1 cereal bowl chip. I have 16 place settings including dinner, salad, soup, cereal and mugs. I also have the serving pieces - gravy, sugar, cream, platters, big bowls, etc. I have had no chipping issues with these either and I put everything in the dishwasher. I have noticed some slight fading, so make sure to rotate the dishes to ensure equal wear. Love these dishes. I only wish the blue was available when I originally ordered, and that it was still available today.

For my 30th wedding anniversary, my husband bought me 12 place settings and most of the serving pieces of Emma in the yellow . They are beautiful! Unfortunately, I did not realize that there is a difference between "microwave safe" and "microwavable". (microwavable is Emma's rating) It is such a frustration that I need to heat items in another dish and then transfer it to the Emma to serve. I just don't take a chance and put them in the microwave! The chipping is of course a frustration, as well. (My 30 yr old dishes don't have as many nicks as Emma does.) I haven't returned any to the store, but after reading most of the reviews, I may do that.

Bowls do chip but love the set

I love this set as a whole; the plates and serving dishes are very sturdy, have a great design, and I love the pale yellow color. Unfortunately the bowls and mugs have chipped since day 1. I've had the set for 5 years and have had to replace all 8 of my bowls. The lips on the bowls and mugs are thinner than the plates so they are more prone to chipping. It's a shame because I can't find anything quite like it.

Have had a set for 4 years and just logged on to buy another one... and was shocked to see that people don't like this set. I have had no problems with chipping or breaking. I was the set by hand and in the dishwasher.

I have the yellow and the green Emma dinnerware. I have had to replace the bowls and cups several times. The plates have held up better,but it is not worth the money. They are really beautiful but I think I will be donating my Emma Dinnerware to our Goodwill and will be getting a new set of dishes.
