Great Sofa

I bought the sofa and loveseat about 6 years ago and love them. They have held up great over time and are very comfortable. I don't have to fluff the back cushions frequently to keep them looking nice as others have mentioned. I love that there are so many fabric choices for the slipcovers. You can always find something that will look nice as your tastes change over time or you move the set to other rooms. They are pricey, but changing the slipcover is like getting a whole new sofa.

We purchased the Charleston couch 9 years ago with 2 slipcovers!! All we can say is WOW, this couch lasts! We are just now replacing the cushions...shows just how long they last! We have had everything from kids to pets bouncing around on this couch, and it is still in perfect condition!! lol If you buy this couch, yes you will have to always straighten the pillows...its just how the style is. We love it!

sofa cushions sag

The cushions on this sofa began to sag after less than 4 months of use and only got worse with wear. (This is saying much as I am only 5'4", 125 lbs). Too bad because otherwise it is a very nice looking, stylish sofa.

best purchase ever

i purchased the charleston sofa and chair in 2003. it is the best money i ever spent. three kids, a cat, a husband, and 8 years of hosting holidays and celebrations my sofa and chair held up perfect! no squeeks and the slipcovers have all held up perfect! i have replaced the slipcovers a few times only to switch up colors in the room and i love that i have the option to do so. i have always picked up the covers online and on sale, once i even purchased them from my local store for 1/4 of the price! i have machine washed all of them and have NEVER had a problem. i always air dry them then finish them off in the dryer to get the wrinkles out. you will love them too!!

Bought the sofa, chair-and-a-half and ottoman 5 years ago and have never regretted it. Incredibly busy household with plenty of guests who are drawn to the most popular room in our home with this furniture. We've watched countless movies and events in our den and love the comfort. Plus an added bonus is that I get to swap out the slipcovers with the extra 3 that I've bought throughout the years so people are always asking if I bought new furniture. Plus loved by our 2 dogs, too!

terrible mistake

We purchased the Charlston sofa and chair 1/2 five years ago. We have "had it" with this couch for years. Every time anyone sits on it, it looks a total mess. The pillows need to be fluffed every time you sit on it. As a nightly chore I have to pull all the cushions off, fluff them, then put them back. The seat cushions have not held up either. Lastly, the slip cover sags in the front so I have to frequently pull off all the seat cushions and tuck the slip cover in so it doesn't sag in the front or expose the back. This sofa is a chore! As we are shopping for a new sofa my husband is begging that I not chose one that has to be "fluffed" at all. When I purchased it five years ago I thought I would just need to replace the slip covers (which is not cheap) but I'm having to replace the entire sofa with a new style and send this one to the goodwill:(

Great couch

The couch is very well made. It is comfortable, and has held up well over the past couple of years. My one complaint is the slipcovers. After one to two washings they no longer fit. We cannot zip up the back, and the fabric ripped trying to get it on the couch. They are quite expensive to replace!

love this couch

I bought the Charleston Sofa and 2 chair and a halfs over 10 years ago. I have 5 kids 2 dogs and many sleep-over guests. The couch is well worn and the slipcovers (velvet Sage) have been washed repeatedly over the years. It has stood the test of "us". The slipcovers still look great. The couch is worn in like an old pair of slippers, very comfortable. I have the down cushions. The down is a much softer seating, like a down comforter. I love this furniture. I am going to change the look and get new slipcovers.(expresso velvet) I just wish they were more reasonably priced. If you are thinking of getting this sofa, get the velvet covers. They are worth the extra $.

love the couch

Just wondering how to find the slip covers for the couch and the cushions. Mine is white and with 2 young children, it isn't so white anymore. Looking for a beige color. Does anyone know where I can find it?

Not a quality sofa

I loved the look of this sofa. But the look is lost after sitting on it. Must constantly be fluffed and plumped, and smoothed or it looks very tired and messy, and broken down.
We've had it 5 years but noticed the support gone after 1yr. It has been very bad on our backs, and is hard to get up from.
One of those very expensive lessons. Make sure you always know how long warranty lasts. In this case only 1yr.

love the couch, hate the slipcovers

The couch is very comfortable but the slip covers are horrible. I got the brushed twill and everything clings to the covers, especially hair. After sitting on the couch for a few hours it is completely covered with hair, quit disgusting. The covers need to be readjusted constantly and are very expensive to dry clean. NOT HAPPY considering it is an expensive option to buy a different fabric. Very disappointed

Love this sofa!

Not only is this couch ridiculously comfortable but it fits exactly what we wanted for our reading room. Like most people these days we have no need for a formal living room and I wanted furniture that was casual and inviting so our living room would actually be used. We ordered 2 of these and sofas, one is a sleeper, and they work beautifully.
I have not had mine long enough to review the wear (plus no kids) but I can tell you to order early. I had to wait almost 3 months for my sleeper sofa because of a fabric delay. We ordered the Pearce Sectional a couple of years ago and that delivery also took forever which is why we ordered these 3 months before we would actually needed them. We had no idea it would take the full 3 months to get them but thank goodness we ordered as early as we did.

We really love this sofa. It is very comfortable and I really like that you can take the covers off and wash them. I don't put them in the dryer though. Make sure you respray with Scotchguard after dry. I want to buy the chair and a half and ottoman next!!!!!!

I have had the Charleston couch for the last 10 years in the sage velvet. It has held up great, such a comfy couch! I was pleasantly surprised that the velvet held up after machine washings. 10 years and 3 kids later, I think I'll get a new slip cover for it.

Slipcovers have never fit

We decided to spend the money for this sofa 2 years ago and I have never been so disappointed. The slipcovers look & fit horrible after I washed them. They wouldn't zip and were pulling in all sorts of crazy directions. I called Pottery Barn and they replaced them. I then had the slipcovers dry-cleaned; again they didn't fit. The slipcover ended up ripping because I had to force it on the couch so PB replaced them again. Now I'm afraid to wash them (which was the point since I have 2 small boys) and the couch slipcover is a different color than the pillow covers because it's from a different color lot. Never again!!!

i bought this sofa about 5 years ago and it is completely worn out can feel the springs and i wash the covers about 4 times a year they are falling apart i also have the chair its falling apart too shortly after i received back pillows became flat they sent me all new pillows but again they went flat really disappointed in this sofa would not buy again or any furniture like this from PB

we have been having this sofa for 10 years now (velvet oat fabric). it is THE most used item of furniture in our household. we have been watching tv in it, eating dinners, napping, having guests, children playing, with a minimum wear and tear. after a couple if years of use i decided to wash the slipcovers in the washer - and they came out like brand new. now i do it about twice a year, sometimes even more often as our three year old can do a lot of damage. i would highly recommend this sofa, in the fabric we have (not sure if the other fabric hold so well).

I was very surprised at the lack of quality in this sofa. My back hurts after sitting for a half hour. And the slip covers are coming apart, even before I ever laundered them. The only thing that's a bonus is all the pillows for my kids to pull off and play in on the floor. It also bugs me that the back of the sofa's cover constantly pulls forward/up, making the back of the sofa exposed.

I came to the web site to check care instructions for the slipcovers on my sofa which I bought back in 2003. I decided to go ahead and post a review also. I have loved the sofa very much, and the slipcovers are still almost like new, but I wanted to clean them. I wasn't sure if laundering them would be OK, but the web site said it would work for my twill fabric so I took the plunge...Fabulous! They came clean, faded very little if at all, and still fit!!! Yay! I will clean them more often now. (BTW, I did Scotchgard everything when I first bought it, and redid that just now to help resist future stains.)
I echo the other reviewer--comfy sofa, beautiful and my two cats like it as well. :) I debated about spending the money on this sofa but am so glad I did. It is a quality piece. Bravo, Pottery Barn!

Good Enough to Want Another!

My family has LIVED on our Charleston sofa for the past eleven years. Slipcovers are the only way to go if you have children and/or pets. Even after repeated washings through the years, the slipcovers are just now showing signs of wear. The furniture is still in great shape and new slipcovers are easily ordered. Because we love this Pottery Barn couch so much, we just bought a PB Basic sectional for another room in our house. Pottery Barn was the only brand of furniture that we considered because of the good looks and quality.
