There is a flaw with this lampshade and it is the smell. I have had it for a month and I can still smell the strong burlap smell. It reminds me of when I was growing up on the farm and the strong smell of the burlap sacks in the barn. Hopefully there is something you can do to "subdue" this smell-a little is okay, but alot is too strong!!!

I purchased the Medium Burlap Tapered Drum Shade in Bleached. I paired it with the Marley Antique Mercury Glass Round Table Lamp Base. I wasn't sure about the size so I am glad that PB always recommends a size. I chose the Bleached since I am putting the lamp in the dining room and it is the same color as my chairs. It is great quality and is lined. I have been happy with all my lamp/shade purchased from PB.

The burlap shades are very nice. I paired them with the Chelsea Sconces and it is a nice look. Highly recommend.

Like the lamp shade and it was delivered in good condition.
The one criticism is that it doesn't have a liner and you can clearly see the light bulb through the shade.

Giant drum lampshade

The lampshade was a gift for my daughter. It was the 5th shade I bought for a floor lamp my husband made for her. She loves it and said it fits perfect!
Pricey though. She's worth it.

I used this shade to breath new life into a floor lamp for my livingroom. I couldn't be more pleased, simple and classic, the shade transformed the lamp and was much easier on the pocketbook than purchasing a new lamp.

This lamp shade, when lit, makes the room look very cozy and inviting. I used a decorative light bulb like PB uses in their online photo and it looks great. The shade looks good during the day also, but spectacular when it's dark.

My husband and I just purchased 2 of these shades (in bleached, XL) to go with our new PB lamp bases. We could not be more thrilled with the quality. They are very well put together and we already have received many complements on them! They look extremely upscale and complement our room perfectly. I love that there are also no plastic parts, all metal, which makes them feel much more durable compared to other lamp shades that we considered. They make a wonderful statement in our master bedroom. I would definitely recommend these shades to others, you definitely won't be disappointed!

Great shades for my family room

I replaced two shades in my family room with these shades. I like the texture since I have a burlap tablecloth in the room too. You can see the lightbulb through the open weave of the fabric but I like the way it looks.

The burlap tapered drum shade fits perfectly with the other decor in the room. The material on the shade is opaque enpough to allow just the right amount of lighting without seeing the light bulb.

Wow! What awesome lampshades - they provide such wonderful mood lighting! Two more to go and all of the lamps in my home will be covered in various shades of burlap. I like the shades with no liner the best - used with a clear bulb, you will not be disapointed!!!!!!!

Quality PB product...well made: the seams meet evenly. The sewing is tight and the gluing is clean. Love the look of the lighting through the burlap! Also appreciated that this shade comes in an extra large size.
My only critique is that there is a slight "burnt burlap" smell when our lamp is lit, which apparently depends on which type bulb you use. An incandescent produced no odor, but the LED bulb now in the light (which is within recommended wattage for the lamp) seems to be the culprit. However, since I like the illumination of the LED, it's on me and I'm living with it. It's only noticible when you're near the lamp. Just a heads up to others :)

I ordered the large tapered burlap shade in natural for the purple glass Clift Lamp. I feel that the large shade looks much better than the medium size which was recommended on the website. The shade is lovely and has a homey, warm, casual look while remaining simple, timeless and elegant.
The burlap used is a softer burlap, not rough and scratchy like a potato sack (hooray!). I was worried the shade would be too sheer because I'm not a fan of seeing the bulb through the shade- I get headaches easily and I'm sensitive to bright lights. I was very pleased upon opening the box to find that the shade is lined with a thin fabric that matches the natural color of the burlap. The shade is still a very tiny bit sheer, but nothing my sensitive eyes won't be able to handle. I wish the lining detail had been mentioned on the website, but all's well that ends well! I love these lamp shades with the Serena Mercury Glass Lamps. I bought both lamp bases and loved that, the suggestion to purchase these shades was right with the description of the lamps. No guess work involved. They look beautiful together. The only thing I changed was, a large shade on the Trophy style base instead of a medium shade. I personally liked the look of the large shade much better than the medium. I get tons of compliments on both the lamps and shades. Great products.

This is a very nice lampshade. The burlap adds wonderful texture to the room and it is great quality. A word about Pottery Barn's customer service...I'm very impressed. I ordered the wrong size and Judy was so helpful in getting a relacement sent out right away and scheduling UPS to pick up the original (even though I had it delivered through the post office) It was a large box and I"m sure the return shipping would have been expensive through the post office, so it helped a lot. Also, about another order, I have the bedford recharging station in which the power strip was defective. I ended up keeping the item and inserting my own power strip in the back b/c the product was backordered for three months. Pam called about the comments I made and she refunded my account for the item...mind you I kept it and it works fine now, Pottery Barn refunded me for my trouble. Now that is customer service!
