Drawer Issues

So far the desk has been great, minus one major issue. The 2 drawer file cabinet does not function properly. When you pull the drawer out (which you really have to pull on) it slides out almost too far, causing the drawer to 'drop.' Has anyone else had this issue?? In order to close the drawer, you have to lift it from the bottom and push it back in. Forgetting to lift the drawer before closing has resulted in a chipped front on the frame of the cabinet. :( Disappointing considering the cost of the desk. But aside from that issue, the desk looks great in our office and seems very sturdy.

Great quality desk

We love this corner desk. It's high quality, sturdy. The only negative is that the two drawer file desk locks and can be difficult to open. A piece within the lock mechanism has already broken on the top drawer. The drawer still closes, it just doesn't 'lock' like it did initially.

I absolutely LOVE the Bedford Corner Desk Set. It arrived in excellent condition and was very easy to assemble. The desk looks fabulous in my sunroom and is exactly what I needed to keep organized and have a place to work from home. I am so pleased with Pottery Barn's customer service and the quality of the furniture. Would definitely recommend this desk set.

Good, but a few dings

Took quite a while to receive the desk and it came spread out over a few weeks, with portions arriving at different times.
Very heavy.
Overall like it a lot, but it does have a couple of dings in the top, which is disappointing. Too heavy, and waited too long to return and wait for a replacement.

Pretty if you don't use it

I love the look of this desk. I hate the particle board. You need a heavily padded chair to use with it because any accidental bumps of any kind will result in dents and dings and gouges. I am very disappointed in the way the desk looks after a few months of use. What a waste of money. It was a pain to put together due to the way the corner hutch is designed. We don't even think that it will survive an upcoming move if we have to take it apart and put it back together. I like the filing cabinets but I am very disappointed with the overall quality and wish I had looked elsewhere.

i love this desk. i've wanted it for so long and finally purchased it. the only reason i gave it 4 stars is because the drawer segment with the file drawer on top has drawers that are hard to open and close. if one drawer is even a little open, the other will not open at all. it gets annoying. other than that, however, i truly love it!

Instructions don't match hardware

After a great experience with the PB team in Reston, I went to put this together only to find out it had NO hardware... after driving to 2 stores the hardware - which was labeled for the desk - didn't have enough parts and had parts that didn't fit. Also the instructions that were in the box with no hardware didn't match what was received from another store. Without having the time to return and deal with this (and waiting for 10 days to get the right parts), my contractor was able to help assemble... but the process I went through and the wait times and lack of help after 4 customer service calls was horrendous. If it wasn't such a pain to return I probably would... not sure it's worth the money.

OMG! I bought two Bedfords desks and they are beautiful! The packing was beyond perfect!! there was no way they were going to get damaged in shippment. Excellent quality. Will buy again and again from Pottery Barn. Highly recommended!! Quality Merchandise!!!

Filing Cabinet drawers have SAFETY FEATURE...

For those who are saying the Filing Cabinet Drawers only open a few inches, it is possible that you are experiencing the SAFETY FEATURE that the Bedford Lateral Filing Cabinet has to ensure that both drawers are not open at the same time and fall on you. I had initially been frustrated with this feature myself, thinking both drawers were pushed in all the way, but couldn't get it to open. If one drawer is out *just a little* the other drawer will not fully open. Sometimes when I would soft close a drawer, it would still be sticking out maybe a 1/4 of an inch, and I wouldn't realize it until I went to open the other drawer. This is a important safety feature, especially since I have my fax and copy machine on top and it would surely be expensive to replace both items if they fell on me and broke.

Absolutely love this desk and we have received many compliments. The only thing is that it picks up every fingerprint and they do not seem to come off. Dry dusting cloths do not pick them up. Any suggestions until we can purchase the acrylic cover?

Love this desk-- so pretty! Only complaint is that the smooth dark surface of my espresso color shows every last smudge mark on it so it must be cleaned frequently.

This is a very well made, sturdy (heavy) desk. I bought the black..and love it. It makes such a statement in the room; and everyone who sees it loves it and wants to know where I got it..The draws and file drawers are very big and holds much..Don't be afraid to buy this .. it is well worth the money, and will last forever..

Looks good, but poorly constructed

The drawers in this series are very poorly constructed and catch every time you try to open the drawer. You can improve things slightly and temporarily by tightening up the glides with a screwdriver, but the hardware and method of mounting into the wood of the cabinet is insufficient for the weight of the drawer alone, much less if the drawer is fully loaded with files. Very disappointing.

Looks great, but not as functional as hoped

I would give this piece 5 stars for looks and spacious work top. Also all the cabinets were pre-assembled in their packages, so just had to put big pieces together. There are functionality problems though. The drawers don't pull out smoothly. One of the file drawers still catches each time I pull it out. You can't open the file drawers while you are sitting down. You have to get up, push your chair in and then open the drawers which is frustrating. Additionally the file drawers are not deep enough to use a file folder and manila folder combo, it bends and tears them each time you open the door, silly oversight! And the two shallow drawers are very shallow and only about 13" into the desk, so you can barely store anything in there and the lip of the top comes out another 3.5" above so you have to struggle to get the end of the drawer anyway. It was a bit disappointing for a desk that was about $1,000 when it was all said and delivered.

So close to great, but missing KEY details!!

Bought the whole ensemble for a home office, corner desk, smart hutch, rectangular desk, two bookcases. The quality is very nice and came well packed. One item came smashed, however, customer service sent a new one right away. HOWEVER, there are several details that really could have made these desks much more user friendly.
1. The "smart" hutch is missing a cord hole. We had to drill one ourselves.
2. There is no option for a locking cabinet. A locking file cabinet is a very common feature on items that cost far less than these. 3. The bookcases do not have adjustable shelves. Again, this is a common feature that one expects on items in this price range.
4. The file drawers are so shallow that regular file folders do not fit. The raised tab on regular, manilla file folders (you know where you write the name of your file) will get squished down when closing the drawer. The hanging rods are fixed, so there is no way
to fix this.

Just put together my new White Bedford Corner desk and it is perfect. It is just the feel I wanted in my office . I work from home (yes, lucky me) and I just love the light airy feel. I am looking for other pieces to put on the surface spaces in the room and having so much fun decided what will look best. It was easy to assemble and everything fits together perfectly. Excellent quality.
